If you are looking to save money or simply need something stronger than a mass-produced/imported Ute tray, our Steel tray plans provide every detail and dimension you need to be able to build your own high strength long-lasting tray to complement your vehicle.
These plans will suit any space cab or dual cab ute. They feature a sliding chassis mounting system that allows you to adjust the mounting position to suit your vehicle before fixing in place and, can be refitted to any other vehicle so you can keep the tray when you upgrade!
The plans feature quick-release removable sides allowing either flatbed or enclosed tray configuration. Side steps on both sides allow easy climbing access to the tray or an additional tie-down point.
Throughout the 29 pages, we detail the general arrangement views that show where each part goes, length, material type, all dimensions and a number of section and detail views showing close up details of smaller parts or features.
Each individual part is then further detailed in its own part drawing where any holes are dimensioned, including size and location as well as notches or end treatments.

All our plans are designed to be easy-to-follow allowing just about anyone to tackle their own build. That being said, not all fabrication tasks are equal. Some will require you to use tools that the home workshop may not have.

99% good design
Plans were good. Ive altered alot of stuff to suit my needs but overall have stuck to drawing. Only real issue were the U-bolts mentioned. They're not a standard size as far as I'm aware and custom ones have needed to be made. I've since decided I'll just be welding brackets on instead of using the U-bolts as it's too much mucking around. Great diagram to start with. I recommend

Great solid tray, easy to follow but a few incorrect measurements.
For a lockdown Covid project this was easy and fun to build. The tray is solid and square and I’m pretty proud of it. There were a couple of specs and measurements out (chassis U bolts too narrow/ step angles incorrect) but overall you can trust the design and get stuck in.
Check your widths as the tray is too narrow for a 4×4 ute and won’t clear the tyres. I found out too late…
Could do with mudguard plans attached also, and a design for a ladder rack would be handy. But when you’re finished you can freehand all that!!August 13, 2020 -
